In the film, Arthur's father is a Roman general from the Imperial Roman army and his mother is a Celtic woman. In the historical notes of the legend, Arthur's father is Uther Pendragon, a famous Romano-British commander and one of Britain's earlier kings, and his mother is Igraine, a beautiful young woman who was once the wife of Gorlois, the Duke of Cornwall and one of Uther's loyal subjects.

The film is loosely based on the "Sarmatian hypothesis", formulated by C. Scott Littleton and Ann C. Thomas in 1978, which holds that the Arthurian legend has a historical nucleus in the Sarmatian heavy cavalry troops stationed in Britain,[9] referencing the similarities between the legends of king Arthur and the older legends of Nartian king Batraz. In the 2nd century, 5,500 Iazyges were transported there as auxiliaries during the Marcomannic Wars.[10] However, the hypothesis is not accepted by scholars who say it lacks a solid base.[11]

The familiar medieval Arthurian myths of a noble King ruling over his kingdom from camelot, supported by his Round Table of loyal and brave knights who seek for the Holy Grail and slay dragons, is a legend that has been engaged with by English kings ever since the 13th Century. By the 14th Century, these tales provided a model for their kingship.

The legends of King Arthur make up a grouping of stories and mythology that describe the life, the heroic adventures, and a historic time of a great king of Britain. King Arthur himself may not have been a single real person, but he represents a long-standing culture of honor that is evident in the tales of knights, journeys, and a quest for truth and faith.

Legends of some of the individual knights in the King Arthur story have gained prominence in popular culture. The story of Lancelot, for example, is quite well-known. Lancelot, the greatest knight, sitting next to the king himself, lives in legend as achieving great honor and prowess in battle. His story is best known, however, as a forbidden love story, as he falls in love with Queen Guinevere. When she is to be executed for betraying her husband, Lancelot saves her from the fire and rides off with her to live out their forbidden love in exile.

Arthurian legends are tales of knights in shining honor, romance, magic, conquests, chivalry, and betrayal. They are based loosely on European history and largely on oral tradition. Arthurian mythology consists of stories of a great king with a great Round Table, a wife named Guinevere, and a sword named Excalibur. Though not necessarily a single real person, Arthur represents a hero type that is popular in historical lore.

The Arthurian legends are a grouping of stories that describe the life and heroic adventures of a mythical king of Britain and his knights. The tales include stories of Arthur's sword, Excalibur, as well as narratives of sorcerers and magical enemies. The end of the legends shows Arthur dying at the hands of his son, Mordred and being buried in Avalon.

Aside from Arthur himself, Merlin is perhaps the most famous character from Arthurian legend. This story by acclaimed author Tony Bradman follows the adventures of Merlin as a young child, as he masters his magic, befriends dragons, and tries to protect the kingdom from the invading Saxons.

Sir Lancelot had an affair with Arthur's wife, which the legendary king couldn't let go. After unsuccessfully conquering Lancelot Castle, it was agreed that Lancelot would leave Britain and go to France. It wasn't satisfying enough for Arthur and he followed him to the continent of Europe. He left the administration of the kingdom to his nephew Mordred. This turned out to be a mistake, because Mordred took a liking to the kingdom and Arthur's wife Guinevere. As a result, Arthur returned, and in the battle of Camlann, he and Mordred mortally wounded each other.

The classic fantasy tale gets a hyper-charged update from director Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes, Snatch). The evil king Vortigern (Jude Law) has taken control of the kingdom of Londinium, and it is up to the born king Arthur (Charlie Hunnam) to reclaim the legendary sword Excalibur and bring order and peace to the kingdom. 2ff7e9595c
